2,5 millioner mennesker tager hvidt tøj på og samles nytårsnat på Copacabana - stranden i Rio de Janeiro i Brasilien. Krydstogtskibene lister langsomt forbi, og gæsterne kan se et gigantisk festfyrværkeri oplyse himlen, mens brasilianerne selv har den tradition, at de klokken 12 hopper over syv bølger og afgiver et ønske for hver bølge.
